BLACKBIRD is the most technologically advanced climbing shoe ever developed by SCARPA. After six years of research and development, the result is a shoe that precisely balances flexibility and stiffness, thanks to the revolutionary carbon-enhanced midsole—the true heart of this innovation. This advanced structure enhances forefoot propulsion even on micro-holds, maximizing precision in every rock climbing discipline, from bouldering to crag climbing to multi-pitch routes. Premium materials and meticulously engineered details work in synergy to take performance to the next level, even during extended climbing sessions. The midsole’s support, combined with a soft and adaptive construction, optimizes efficiency during activity, reducing energy loss and fatigue in the base of the big toe during the most intense sessions.
Choosing the wrong size can compromise your experience: BLACKBIRD is not a shoe to be chosen with aggressive downsizing; we recommend opting for at least half a size larger than your usual SCARPA climbing shoe.
USE Crag climbing, bouldering, and multi-pitch routes.
Focus
UPPER
The upper is made of double-layer microfiber, with a perforated outer layer that improves flexibility. An Alcantara inner insert, positioned in the forefoot area, enhances sensitivity. The heel features a foam insert fully lined with Alcantara, designed to reduce pressure in the heel area.
LACING
The Z-Cord system, stitched and integrated into the upper, combines with a wraparound strap that completely encircles the foot, securing it and ensuring a precise fit. A customizable, feather-shaped strap closure completes the system, allowing for a secure adjustment.
TENSIONING
PCB-TENSION
The PCB-TENSION (Power Connection Band) transfers power from the forefoot to the heel.
PAF
The PAF System is an innovative heel construction method that improves force distribution and reduces pressure on the Achilles tendon.
FWS-TENSION
The highly tensioned band completely wraps around the foot from the toe to the heel, ensuring a precise fit.
MID SOLE
Features a 3D-printed, carbon-reinforced Pebax® midsole that combines Pebax® Rnew (with reduced use of fossil-based raw materials) for lightness and elasticity. Carbon fiber for stiffness and stability. Glass fiber for more progressive stiffness. The combination of these three materials provides dynamic support and results in a stable, responsive midsole that ensures maximum precision without requiring forced downsizing. It works in synergy with a soft upper construction that conforms to the foot, reducing toe compression compared to traditional precision climbing shoes. For climbers, this means reduced foot fatigue on holds, greater efficiency, and an overall better climbing experience.
OUTSOLE
The shoe features an M50 rubber toe rand—our softest and most flexible compound—designed to perfectly conform to the natural curve of the foot and toes, increasing comfort and improving performance on toe hooks. The Vibram® XS Grip 2 sole, which covers about one-third of the shoe’s length, offers an exceptional combination of traction, sensitivity, and support. The integrated heel features a new construction designed to increase effectiveness in heel hooks, combining two handcrafted rubber components—one made of Vibram XS Edge and one of XS Grip 2—molded together to create a unique heel shape. A side stabilizer consists of an additional rubber element, tensioned on the inner side of the shoe, to increase foot stability.
